Laboratory Fume Hood

No Laboratory Fume Hood is safer than the Protector XStream Laboratory Hood!

The Protector XStream Laboratory Hood pushes the boundaries of containment, safety, and energy efficiency. Independent tests show that this high-performance laboratory fume hood, built for general chemical use, exceeds SEFA-1 standards by a wide margin. With the sash fully open and a face velocity of just 40 fpm, the XStream was challenged with 50 fpm cross drafts, NIH protocol testing, and tracer gas measurements taken at the mannequin’s chest.

In every scenario, it maintained an average tracer gas level of 0.00 ppm outside the hood. While your safety officer will determine the appropriate face velocity for your lab, the XStream’s ability to contain under such extreme conditions sets a new benchmark for laboratory safety.

Energy-efficient performance

Safety comes first, but the energy savings are just as impressive. While face velocity plays a role, it’s the volumetric airflow rate (CFM) that truly determines energy consumption. Operating a 6' Protector XStream at a face velocity of 60 fpm with the sash fully open requires only 690 CFM.

No matter your chosen face velocity, the Protector XStream consistently delivers the lowest required CFM of any fume hood.

What is a fume hood?

A fume hood keeps you safe while working with hazardous materials. Air from the lab is drawn into the hood, where it mixes with any harmful vapors or fumes. This air is then pulled away from the user and safely vented out through the top of the building. Using a fume hood correctly helps protect you, your equipment, and everyone around you. The sash is the glass window at the front of the hood, it acts as a physical barrier between you and what’s inside. At the back of the hood, you’ll find baffles, panels that guide the airflow evenly and direct it away from the user. The airfoil, located at the bottom edge of the hood’s opening, allows air to flow smoothly into the hood even when the sash is fully closed.
